How it Works
Driving Practice and Lesson Requirements for Adults (18-24):
- Take a 6 hour driver education course and pass a written exam on traffic laws and road signs. Most courses give you the tests at the end of the course and print your scores on your completion certificate. (required if you are 18-24; recommended for 25+)
- Obtain an instruction permit
- Although there is no lesson requirement, you can practice with a licensed driver in the front seat with you or take lessons with our licensed professional instructors
- Take the Impact Texas Young Adult course when you are ready for your road test.
Take a driving skills test with a licensed examiner at 3 Lakes Driving School (link to road test page) - 3 Lakes Driving School will upload your documents to DPS if you qualify or give you an envelope to take back to DPS if you don't qualify
- Pay the license fee and get your license
Behind-the-Wheel Driving Lessons
Save by purchasing a package of lessons or pay as you go. Either way, you will receive quality instruction in a one-hour private driving lesson customized to your skills and experience. All driving lessons start and end at our location. Students who need a ride typically use Uber, Lyft, or other ride service.
Lesson packages complement parent-taught teen driver education only. All driving lessons are taught by highly trained and licensed instructors and provide skills needed for safe driving.

A valid Texas permit is required to take behind-the-wheel lessons.
